Abstract

Objective: To analyze, in light of recent scientific literature, the impacts of climacteric symptoms on women's mental health and to identify evidence-based strategies for promoting psychological well-being during the menopausal transition. Methodology: An integrative literature review was conducted in the LILACS and PubMed/MEDLINE databases. Six studies published between 2007 and 2024 were selected, including clinical trials, observational, and qualitative studies addressing the intersection between menopause, vasomotor symptomatology, and mood disorders. Results: The analysis revealed that menopause acts as a systemic maturational crisis. A "symptomatological cascade" was identified, wherein severe hot flashes and chronic insomnia fragment sleep architecture, leading to cognitive exhaustion and increasing neurobiological vulnerability to depression and, in severe cases, suicidal ideation. Sociocultural factors, such as ageism and social invisibility, exacerbate this suffering. Non-pharmacological interventions, notably physical exercise and mind-body practices, demonstrated efficacy in regulating the neuroendocrine axis and reducing anxious symptoms. Conclusion: Mental health in menopause requires a transdisciplinary approach that transcends hormonal replacement. It is imperative that health professionals actively screen for suicide risk and treat insomnia and vasomotor symptoms as preventive priorities in mental health, promoting comprehensive and humanized care.
