Bimaxillary oral rehabilitation with protocol-type fixed prostheses in a bruxist patient: Case report.

The oral rehabilitation of completely edentulous patients is a challenge for the dentist. In these cases, fixed implant-supported prostheses represent the "gold standard" in rehabilitative treatments as they efficiently restore chewing, phonation, and facial esthetics, providing comfort, stability, and security. Female patient, 60 years old, in good general health, presented esthetic and functional dissatisfaction with metal-plastic protocol-type prostheses. Upon examination, wear, deficient esthetics, and difficulty in hygiene were observed. After clinical and radiographic evaluation, it was decided to fabricate new fixed upper and lower prostheses on implants, with acrylic resin covering. Impression was taken using open tray transfer and addition silicone, following the sectioning and splinting protocol between the transfer copings. The trial bases were adjusted for vertical dimension, and esthetic parameters, being recorded with a facebow and bite silicone. After functional and esthetic testing, the prostheses were acrylicized and installed. Together, a protective plate was made and given to the patient for bruxism control. The present work describes the oral rehabilitation process involving the replacement of protocol-type prostheses, highlighting the importance of correct adaptation, aesthetics, and function. The relevance of the study lies in describing the treatment stages clearly and objectively, presenting satisfactory results in terms of comfort, esthetics, and functionality.
