Abstract

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a multisystem genetic disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance, characterized by the development of hamartomas in several organs, including the brain, heart, kidneys, skin, and eyes. The diagnosis is usually established during childhood; however, early manifestations may be present in the neonatal period. This study aims to report a case of neonatal tuberous sclerosis, highlighting the initial clinical findings and the importance of early recognition. A male newborn, born at 38 weeks and 5 days of gestation, developed cyanosis and respiratory distress shortly after birth, requiring ventilatory support with CPAP. Echocardiography revealed intracardiac masses suggestive of rhabdomyomas, a finding strongly associated with tuberous sclerosis complex. Physical examination identified a café-au-lait macule on the right lower limb, further raising suspicion of a genetic syndrome. The patient was referred for genetic testing and multidisciplinary follow-up. Early diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis is essential for appropriate monitoring and early intervention for potential neurological, cardiac, and renal complications. This case highlights the importance of detailed clinical evaluation and multidisciplinary collaboration in the diagnosis and management of this condition.
