Playfulness and its role in early childhood education

Abstract

Ludicity in Early Childhood Education constituted the central theme of this study, being analyzed as an essential element for children’s integral development and for the teaching and learning process. The study aimed to analyze the role of ludicity in the context of Early Childhood Education, highlighting its contributions to cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development, as well as understanding its relevance in pedagogical practices. The research was conducted through a qualitative approach, with an exploratory and descriptive nature, using bibliographic review as the main technical procedure. Scientific articles, books, and official educational documents were analyzed, allowing the systematization of different conceptions regarding ludicity and its application in the school environment. The results showed that playful activities, when intentionally planned, favored meaningful learning, stimulated creativity, autonomy, and social interaction, and contributed to knowledge construction in a more dynamic and enjoyable way. It was also identified that the teacher’s role was fundamental in mediating these practices, being responsible for organizing and guiding activities according to educational objectives. Furthermore, ludicity contributed to inclusion by enabling the adaptation of pedagogical practices to students’ individual needs. However, challenges related to its effective implementation were identified, such as the need for continuous teacher training and the overcoming of traditional teaching conceptions. Thus, the study demonstrated that ludicity is an indispensable resource in Early Childhood Education, contributing to a more meaningful, inclusive, and development-oriented education.
