Geopolitics and the new world order in the 21st century: transformations, conflicts and challenges for international law

Contemporary geopolitics has undergone profound transformations in the 21st century, driven by economic, technological, and strategic changes that redefine power relations in the international system. The concept of a New World Order, consolidated after the end of the Cold War, has been constantly redefined in light of the rise of new powers, multipolarity, and the increase in regional and global conflicts. This article aims to analyze the transformations of geopolitics in the New World Order and their impacts on International Law. This is a qualitative study based on literature review, including analysis of doctrine, international documents, and recent data on conflicts and the reorganization of global power. The central hypothesis argues that the current configuration of the world order, marked by multipolarity and instability, poses significant challenges to International Law, particularly regarding the maintenance of peace, state sovereignty, and international cooperation. The relevance of this study is justified scientifically by the need to update geopolitical and legal debates; socially, by the direct impact of international conflicts on populations; and personally, by the importance of critical academic formation regarding contemporary global dynamics. The results indicate that International Law faces limitations in the face of new power configurations, requiring normative and institutional adaptations.
