Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that significantly affects communication, social interaction, and behavior in diagnosed individuals. Children with ASD face specific challenges in dental settings, including sensory hypersensitivity, heightened anxiety, and uncooperative behavior, which complicate clinical management. This study aims to review the current scientific literature on effective dental management strategies for pediatric patients with ASD, highlighting the most commonly used therapeutic, behavioral, and environmental approaches.
The study consists of a literature review conducted between 2015 and 2025, based on data from PubMed and SciELO databases. The reviewed literature emphasizes the importance of multidimensional and adaptive strategies in the dental care of pediatric patients with ASD. Systematic desensitization, the use of visual communication, family involvement, and environmental adaptation are critical components for successful treatment. The continuous qualification of dental surgeons and the integration of emerging technologies reinforce the need for a more inclusive and effective practice, focused on the child’s quality of life and well-being.
