Abstract

Childhood dermatoses represent one of the main demands in Primary Health Care (PHC), reflecting both the biological vulnerability of developing skin and the social determinants that influence the health-disease process. This study aims to analyze the panorama of dermatoses in the pediatric population in Brazil, highlighting their prevalence, main clinical manifestations, and the challenges faced by healthcare teams at the primary level of care. This is an epidemiological, observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, based on secondary data collected between 2016 and 2024 from electronic medical records, health information systems, and epidemiological reports. The results show a high prevalence of dermatoses in children, especially eczematous disorders, particularly atopic dermatitis, and infectious diseases such as impetigo. It was observed that, although PHC has the potential to resolve most cases, factors such as diagnostic uncertainty and insufficient training in pediatric dermatology contribute to unnecessary referrals. Furthermore, dermatological conditions were strongly associated with social determinants, such as housing and sanitation conditions. It is concluded that strengthening professional training, combined with the use of technologies such as teledermatology and the adoption of longitudinal care strategies, is essential to improve the problem-solving capacity of PHC and promote comprehensive child health.
