Abstract

This article presents an experience report on the implementation of the project “Saving to Save and Invest!” in a first-year high school class at the Full-Time High School (EEMTI) Liceu Vila Velha, located in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. The project, originally designed for the 9th grade of elementary education, was adapted for high school and consisted of a sequence of eight classes focused on Financial Education. The participating class, composed of 30 students, engaged in practical activities, collective discussions, mathematical problem-solving, poster production, and reflections on consumption habits, saving, and investments. The objective was to promote the understanding of concepts related to financial planning, conscious consumption, and different forms of investment. The observed results indicated that students developed greater awareness of the importance of financial control, understood the concepts of simple and compound interest, learned about investment modalities beyond traditional savings accounts, and demonstrated changes in attitudes regarding consumption and expense planning. The report reaffirms the relevance of Financial Education in high school as a transversal pedagogical practice, contributing to the comprehensive and civic education of young people.
