Training and professional development in the mining engineering sector: strategies, challenges and organizational impact

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the strategic role of training and competency development in Mining Engineering, emphasizing their contribution to technical performance, operational safety, and organizational sustainability in Angola. The research adopted a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive approach, based on a bibliographic review of recent scientific, institutional, and regulatory sources. This method allowed the identification of training models, curricular gaps, and relevant corporate practices within the Angolan mining context.
The results show that training and continuous professional development are key determinants of competitiveness and technological innovation in the mining sector. University–industry integration, the creation of centers of excellence, technical certification, and the inclusion of ESG principles in curricula emerge as essential strategies to strengthen human capital and reduce operational risks.
It is concluded that strengthening an integrated system of training and professional development supported by public policies, institutional cooperation, and technological innovation is fundamental to raising the competency standards of mining engineers and promoting a safer, more sustainable, and knowledge-driven mining industry.
